Since last fall’s accident, the number one question we’ve heard around town has been:

When will the Mountain Street Bridge reopen?

You asked and NCDOT has provided an update.

Beginning next week, the contractor, Wright Brothers, will start prep work on Monday,

January 19th. During this time, traffic will be routed up and over using the ramps. This

phase of work is expected to take approximately three days.

NCDOT is also awaiting fabrication of the steel beams needed to complete the project.

Once those materials are ready, work will continue toward full reopening.

We know this project impacts daily travel, and we appreciate your patience and

cooperation. Please obey all traffic laws, allow extra travel time, and give crews the

space they need to work safely. Your attention and safe driving help keep everyone

protected.

Thank you for bearing with us as we work toward reopening this important connection

for our community.
