Nearly 30 years have passed since the tragic murder of Minnie Lee Brooks, but her family and investigators are still searching for answers.

Minnie Lee Brooks was just 27 years old when her body was discovered on September 6, 1997, at 1451 Metcalf Road in Shelby. Nearly three decades later, her murder remains unsolved. The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office continues to list Minnie's case among the county's unsolved homicides and remains committed to finding those responsible.

According to a 2017 report on the case, investigators revisited the homicide and continued searching for new leads. Minnie had disappeared days before her body was discovered, and authorities said there were no known witnesses when the investigation began. Investigators had identified several suspects early in the case, but the passage of time has made the search for answers increasingly difficult.

For Minnie's family, however, the pain of losing her has never disappeared.

Her son, Christopher Brooks, was just 14 years old when he learned that his mother had been killed. In 2017, he told WSOC that the loss still hurt as though it had happened only yesterday and that his family simply wanted answers and justice.

The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office continues to ask the public for help. Investigators believe that someone may know something about what happened to Minnie. Even information that may seem small or insignificant could potentially provide investigators with the missing piece they need.

After nearly 30 years, memories may have faded, relationships may have changed, and someone who once felt unable to come forward may now be willing to speak.

If you have any information about the murder of Minnie Lee Brooks, please contact the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office at 704-484-4822 or Crime Stoppers at 704-481-TIPS (8477). Tips may be provided anonymously.

Minnie's name and story deserve to be remembered.

Please consider sharing this story. After nearly three decades, one phone call, one memory, or one piece of information could help bring long-awaited answers to her family and justice for Minnie Lee Brooks.
