Old Fort Man Gets Felony Drug Charges

Deputy Juan Bustos De Luna with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Matthew Lynn Goldsmith, 50, of Old Fort with felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance, and felony Possession of Methamphetamine. He was initially denied bond due to already being out on pretrial release.

On Thursday, Jan. 8, Deputy Bustos de Luna initiated a vehicle stop on Old Fort-Sugar Hill Rd., for a traffic violation. Goldsmith was a passenger in the vehicle and was found to have an active warrant out for his arrest.

A subsequent search of his person turned up 9.5 grams of methamphetamine.
