Old Fort Men Face Drug Charges After McDowell County Traffic Stop

The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged two Old Fort men following a traffic stop on Saturday, September 27.


Deputy Gabe Eudy stopped a Jeep for speeding and driving in the opposite lane. The driver, 44-year-old Charles Anthony Burnette of Old Fort, was found to be operating the vehicle without a license. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.


Burnette was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana (up to ½ ounce). He received a $7,500 secured bond.


A passenger, 44-year-old Dwayne Dean McMinn of Old Fort, was also charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and given a $2,500 secured bond.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol assisted in the incident.
