Rutherford County government offices, the county landfill, convenience centers, and Rutherford County Courts are closed Monday, February 2, due to hazardous winter weather conditions, officials said in a statement.

Rutherford County Schools announced a remote learning day for students and an optional workday for teachers on Monday. Eligible school employees are authorized to work remotely.

“We hope you're all enjoying the snowfall that blanketed Rutherford County and much of North Carolina yesterday,” school officials said in a statement. “While we're seeing some melting under sunny skies this afternoon, area road conditions will be treacherous overnight and through the morning tomorrow as temperatures fall well below freezing.”

Officials said additional melting is expected under warmer and sunnier conditions on Monday afternoon. School administrators will continue monitoring road conditions and will announce plans for Tuesday’s operations by 6:00 p.m. Monday, the statement said.
