Rutherford County voters turned out in strong numbers for the March 3, 2026 primary election, and the results show both continuity and fresh faces shaping local leadership.
In a high-profile upset, David Norris pulled off a decisive victory over incumbent Ted Bell to become the Republican nominee for District Attorney in the 41st Prosecutorial District, which includes Rutherford and McDowell counties.
The County Commission saw a wave of new leadership as well. Allen Hardin emerged victorious in a competitive five-way race, and Adam Yelton secured his seat with strong support — both now poised to serve on the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners with no Democratic challengers this fall.
These results set the stage for an interesting general election cycle and signal a shift toward new voices in local government.
