Rutherford County Handles Over 460 Emergency Calls

Rutherford County Emergency Communications processed 463 emergency and administrative calls from Aug. 20-21, according to the latest report from the county's 911 center.

The calls included 49 requests for emergency medical services or rescue assistance and 274 law enforcement calls involving agencies across the county.

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office handled 140 calls, followed by Forest City with 63, Spindale with 41, Rutherfordton with 28, and Lake Lure with two.

The figures were released by Rutherford County Emergency Communications Director Scott Schiefelbein and 911 Operations Coordinator Roman Scruggs.

Fire departments also responded to a variety of incidents during the reporting period, including motor vehicle accidents, fire alarms and a reported structure fire.

The Cherry Mountain Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident. Ellenboro Fire Department handled a fire alarm and a motor vehicle accident.

Forest City firefighters responded to a structure fire and a fire alarm.

Hudlow Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident, while Rutherfordton firefighters responded to two motor vehicle accidents.

The report also lists Sandy Mush and Spindale among the primary fire departments responding to calls during the period. Several fire alarms were reported, including incidents involving assisting departments.

The emergency communications report provides a snapshot of the demand placed on Rutherford County's emergency response system over a single 24-hour period.

The 911 center dispatches calls for law enforcement, emergency medical services and fire and rescue agencies throughout the county.
