The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to several recurring scams that have begun resurfacing as the holiday season approaches.

According to the sheriff’s office, scammers often exploit this time of year, taking advantage of increased shopping activity, charitable giving, and end-of-year deadlines to deceive unsuspecting victims. Officials urge residents to remain cautious and verify the legitimacy of any suspicious calls, messages, or financial requests.

Several types of scams have been reported, including phone calls from individuals impersonating law enforcement and demanding payment to avoid arrest, gift card scams requiring immediate payment, package delivery or shipping scams sent through text or email, fake charity solicitations, and online marketplace schemes involving nonexistent items or fraudulent buyers.

The sheriff’s office emphasizes that law enforcement will never request payment over the phone and advises the public not to share personal or financial information with unknown callers. Officials also recommend verifying charitable donations by visiting official websites and contacting agencies or companies directly if something appears suspicious.

Residents who believe they have been targeted or victimized are encouraged to contact the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.
