Stealing is bad enough, but stealing items meant to help homeless animals has left many in Cabarrus County frustrated and disappointed.
According to authorities, thieves targeted the Cabarrus County Animal Shelter on two separate nights this week, making off with donated supplies intended to care for animals awaiting adoption.
Surveillance video from Monday night captured a woman removing donated items from the shelter. Then, on Wednesday night, two men were caught on camera taking additional supplies. Authorities say the men were also recorded attempting to break into a utility trailer and a storage building located on the property.
Among the items reported stolen were blankets, pet beds, cat litter and cleaning supplies—items that had been donated by members of the community to support the shelter's animals.
Investigators obtained a photo of the woman believed to be involved in Monday night's theft. Video from Wednesday's incident captured a maroon truck believed to be connected to the case.
Authorities say it is unclear whether the two incidents are related. The investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with information about the thefts is encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
