U.S. Marshals Increase Reward for Wanted Murder Suspect

Authorities are asking for the public's help in locating a man wanted in connection with a 2024 homicide, and the reward for information leading to his arrest has now increased to $6,000.

The U.S. Marshals Service is searching for Jonathan Martzes Petty, who is wanted in connection with the March 29, 2024, shooting death of a Cleveland County resident in Charlotte.

Investigators describe Petty as armed and dangerous and warn that he has an extensive criminal history and a history of violent behavior. Law enforcement officials urge the public not to approach him if he is seen.

The U.S. Marshals Service has increased the reward to $6,000 for information that leads directly to Petty's arrest.

Anyone with information about Petty's whereabouts is asked to contact the lead investigator at 704-813-6884 or call the U.S. Marshals Service Tip Line at 1-877-WANTED-2 (1-877-926-8332). Authorities say all tips can be provided anonymously.

Investigators continue to ask the public to share information that could help bring justice to the victim's family and safely apprehend the suspect.
