A Marion pair was recently charged with numerous drug offenses after a traffic stop led McDowell County Sheriff’s Office deputies to locate a trafficking amount of fentanyl.

Amanda Dawn Boone, 31, and Patrick Ryan Poteat, 34, were each charged by Deputy Juan Bustos de Luna with the following:

• Felony Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance

• Felony (2 counts) Trafficking in Fentanyl

• Felony Maintain a Vehicle/Dwelling/Place for Controlled Substance

• Felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance

Both Boone and Poteat were each given secured bonds in the amount of $240,000.

On January 4, Deputy Bustos de Luna initiated a stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. Poteat was the driver and found to be operating a vehicle with no license. Boone was a passenger.

With the assistance of MCSO K9 Rambo, deputies searched the vehicle and found a trafficking amount of fentanyl at 12.71 grams.

Boone was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.

“Removing fentanyl from our streets saves lives,” said Sheriff Ricky T. Buchanan. “Every seizure like this protects families and prevents another potential overdose in our community. We are very proud of our deputies for their continuous hard work and diligence while out on patrol.”

The N.C. Highway Patrol assisted MCSO deputies with the incident.
