Detective Michael Vaughn with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office has charged 40-year-old Jeremiah Nathan Bartlett of Marion with felony burning personal property and misdemeanor communicating threats. Bartlett was denied bond due to the incident being domestic violence-related.

On October 27, deputies responded after fire and EMS crews reported a man walking away from the scene of a structure fire. Bartlett was located and stopped nearby.

Investigators determined that Bartlett had set the fire following a verbal altercation with his wife. He later sent her video footage and threatening text messages confirming that he started the blaze.

Sheriff Ricky T. Buchanan expressed his gratitude to the agencies that assisted in the response and investigation, including the Marion Fire Department, Glenwood Fire Department, Nebo Fire Department, Dysartsville Fire Department, McDowell EMS, McDowell Rescue Squad, and the McDowell County Fire Marshal’s Office.
