Most Wanted Arrested

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — A man who was recently listed among the Burke County Sheriff’s Office’s most wanted suspects was arrested after surrendering to authorities.


Michael Joel Davis, 29, of Morganton, was taken into custody on August 14 after a local bondsman brought him to the Burke County Magistrate’s Office to surrender. Deputies also served Davis with outstanding Failure to Appear warrants in Burke County.


According to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, the Burke County charges include two counts of felony trafficking opium or heroin, felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.


Davis also surrendered on Buncombe County charges that include felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.


Davis received a $250,000 secured bond on the Burke County charges and an additional $4,000 secured bond on the Buncombe County charges, bringing his total secured bond to $254,000.


His next court date is scheduled for September 14, 2026.


The sheriff’s office said Davis was on the agency’s most wanted list for less than one day before his surrender.


The case was handled by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
