A recent Facebook post claimed that applications were being accepted in the Spindale area for employment at Sheetz, sparking interest and questions from the community.
After receiving several calls—both to the station and personally—it seemed best to go straight to the source.
On Tuesday morning, Spindale Town Manager Scott Webber was at the radio station delivering the town’s Commissioner’s Report. During his visit, another question came in about Sheetz potentially coming to the area. Webber clarified for listeners that while Love’s Travel Stops is moving closer to building in Rutherford County, there are currently no plans for a Sheetz location in Spindale.
To confirm, WCAB also contacted Sheetz corporate headquarters in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The company confirmed there are no plans to build a location in Spindale, North Carolina.
According to the Sheetz website, the closest locations to Rutherford County are in neighboring areas, including Morganton and Hendersonville.
Additionally, WCAB reached out to the local NC Works Career Center regarding the rumored job applications. Anita with NC Works confirmed they are not accepting applications for Sheetz at this time.
For some perspective, it’s not uncommon for companies to advertise job openings outside a specific area if they are unable to find qualified candidates locally. That may explain the confusion surrounding the recent post.
For now, however, Sheetz is not coming to Rutherford County—but we’ll continue to keep an eye out for any updates.
