On March 11, 2026, investigators with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office ACE Team,

working in conjunction with the Tri-City Violent Crimes Task Force, attempted to make

contact with an individual suspected of involvement in the sale and distribution of

fentanyl within Rutherford County.

During the investigation, authorities located Chawnteat McEntire, also known as “Shawn

Mac,” of Spindale, NC, along with another male subject walking through the parking lot

of the Dollar General on Railroad Avenue. As investigators attempted to approach and

speak with McEntire, both individuals fled on foot through a nearby trail leading toward

an apartment complex.

One of the subjects stopped and was immediately detained by investigators. The

second individual, later identified as McEntire, continued to flee through the apartment

complex before he was eventually apprehended and taken into custody.

Following a search of the area where McEntire had fled, investigators recovered a

pouch belonging to him that contained the following suspected narcotics:

26.54 grams of fentanyl packaged in 26 separate baggies

0.76 grams of methamphetamine

5 grams of marijuana

$512 in U.S currency

As a result of the investigation, McEntire was charged with the following offenses:

Trafficking Fentanyl

Possession With Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Methamphetamine

Possession With Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Marijuana

Manufacture/Sell/Deliver/Possess Controlled Substance Within 1,000 Feet of a Park

Resisting a Public Officer

McEntire was issued no bond due to other pending charges.

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office ACE Team and the Tri-City Violent Crimes Task

Force remain committed to proactively addressing narcotics trafficking and distribution

in Rutherford County and will continue working to remove dangerous drugs from the

community.
