MARION, N.C. — The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office has charged two Marion residents following a traffic stop that uncovered suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia.

Deputy William Guzman charged 27-year-old Hannah Hylemon with felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and felony possession of methamphetamine. She was given a secured bond of $7,500.

Also charged was 35-year-old Cody Alexander Hughes, who faces felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Hughes was also issued a secured bond of $7,500.

The charges stem from a vehicle stop on December 18, during which deputies, assisted by the N.C. State Highway Patrol, discovered Hughes had an active warrant from Buncombe County. A search of the vehicle and its occupants uncovered the suspected drugs and paraphernalia.

Chief Deputy Nathan Mace praised the deputies’ work, stating, “Through proactive enforcement and strong partnerships, we remain committed to holding offenders accountable and keeping dangerous drugs out of our communities.”
