Two Charged with Breaking Into Assisted Living Facility

Deputy Bradley Biddix with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged two individuals after they broke into an assisted living facility this week. Gage Allen Marcus, 32, of Morganton, and 60-year-old Karen Lavern Marcus, also of Morganton, were each charged with felony Breaking and/or Entering and felony Larceny After Breaking and Entering. Both received secured bonds in the amount of $7,500.

On Tuesday, January 13, the owner of a local assisted living facility called into the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office to report a breaking-and-entering. The facility has been closed due to damage from Hurricane Helene.

Upon arrival, deputies located Gage and Karen Marcus exiting a rear door.

After speaking with them, it was determined that both had unlawfully entered the facility and they were taken into custody
