Not even high winds, snow flurries, or a temporary power outage could stop the Chimney Rock Post Office from reopening its doors — a true testament to the Village’s resilience and community spirit.
Administrator Stephen Duncan shared that the reopening came with its fair share of challenges, including a surprise visit from some curious bears. But through teamwork and determination, the post office once again stands ready to serve the people of Chimney Rock.
Tim Moore expressed his appreciation to the United States Postal Service for restoring mail services to mountain communities impacted by Hurricane Helene and shared an update on ongoing recovery efforts across western North Carolina.
Also in attendance was Jake Johnson, who continues to advocate for the Village and its residents.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Mayor Pro Tem Buck Meliski and his wife Barbara, the former Mayor, who own the historic building and played a key role in restoring it so the post office could return home. Mayor Peter O’Leary and Council Member April Schick joined the celebration, marking a proud moment for the entire community.
From overcoming storms to rebuilding spaces, Chimney Rock once again proves that its heart — and its hometown pride — are stronger than ever.
