Exclusive: Forest City Man Sentenced in Child Sex Case

A Forest City man has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to one felony count involving a child.

As WCAB Newsfirst reportedin October 2025, Christopher Seth Ledford, of Harrill Road in Forest City, had been indicted on six felony charges involving a child.

Ledford ultimately pleaded guilty to attempted statutory sex offense with a child by an adult in Rutherford Superior Court on June 29, 2026.

Judge Gary Gavenus sentenced Ledford to 125 to 210 months in prison.

Thecase involved allegations dating back to 2023 and was investigated by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office.

According to the original indictment, Ledford faced three counts of attempted statutory sex offense with a child by an adult and three counts of indecent liberties with a child.

Under the plea agreement, Ledford pleaded guilty to one count. The state agreed that he accepted responsibility for his criminal conduct, which allowed the court to consider that as a mitigating factor in sentencing.

Ledford had no prior records, according to the sentencing judgment.He also received credit for 287 days already spent in custody.

Court-ordered requirements

In addition to the prison sentence, Ledford must register as a sex offender as required by North Carolina law.

The court also entered a permanent no-contact order and indicated that Ledford could be subject to satellite-based monitoring if ordered by the court.

He was ordered to pay $10,000 in fines and $2,778 in court costs, totaling $12,778.

The court also recommended psychological counseling and that work release not be granted.

Ledford had previously been held under a $5 million secured bond following his indictment.

The Rutherford Superior Court case,24CR000166-800, is now listed as disposed. 

The District Attorney's Office has not issued any statement about the case.
